Residential Addition
Flat Roof
Project Overview
The client hated being in the flow of their home, focusing heavily on the kitchen. Whenever they entertained – they felt secluded, cramped and away from all of the fun. The rooms were divided by doors without any ability to connect to the rest of the house. The flow of the house was poor and felt as if there were endless “dead ends”, having to walk all the way around just to get to another room.
By connecting all of the first floor spaces we got rid of the “dead ends” and opened up the floor plan. There are now multiple paths to get to each space on the first floor. We were able to add more space to the basement through the 2-story addition as well. There is also a better connection to the exterior – the client previously had to go through a rickety small screened porch to get to their grill. The outdoor space was not convenient to the kitchen or to the eating area.
