ADDITION REMODEL
GAITHERSBURG, MD
These homeowners wanted a functional space that their parents, in their 80s, can easily access and use as a guest space during their frequent visits to their home.
By expanding the backside of the house they were able to add a main-level bedroom along with a bathroom and easier to access back-porch. The bedroom and bathroom are spacious enough to accommodate wheel chairs, with a walk-in shower, and the homeowners added a free-standing tub for their personal relaxation.
Here’s a snapshot of their remodel:
The rear addition brought the back of the house to meet the previous four-season enclosed porch, creating room for the new guest suite and a rear entry to the patio.
The wall and entry to the rear porch were removed and reconfigured into a new spacious sunroom area with a larger opening to the rest of the house – gaining greater wheelchair accessibility throughout the first floor.
The four-season patio was transformed bringing in natural lighting and a more expansive view of their wooded backyard.
The rear powder room was expanded out to create a new master bath retreat for both them and their parents. The walk-in shower is great for easy access and has a spray bar and grab bar for leashing and cleaning the many dogs they foster.
The new main-level guest bedroom with backyard views was created by extending the rear corner of the home.
