Project Overview

Located in Arlington, VA, this kitchen remodel brings a refined modern aesthetic to a home rooted in mid-century architecture. The homeowner wanted a space that reflected the clean lines and natural connection of the era while creating better flow between the kitchen, family room, and outdoor views.

To achieve this vision, Sun Design’s Jon Benson designed custom Bel Forté cabinetry inspired by a cherished family furniture piece, ensuring the new kitchen felt both personal and timeless. Crafted from mottled maple with a clear coat finish in 60% gloss, the frameless slab-style doors and drawers create a sleek, seamless look while allowing the wood’s natural variation to shine through.

The Cambria Wentwood countertops, with their subtle movement and eased edge, pair elegantly with the “Winter Brick” glass mosaic backsplash—a 1/2″ x 1-1/2″ subway tile in a straight lay pattern grouted in #940 Antique White, giving the space a crisp, modern polish.

Performance and beauty converge with GE Café Series stainless steel appliances, including a 30″ slide-in double oven gas range and counter-depth French door refrigerator, complemented by a Bosch 800 Series dishwasher and a Signature Hardware “Portnoy” polished chrome faucet.

The finished kitchen honors the spirit of mid-century design while embracing modern comfort—a thoughtfully tailored blend of clean geometry, warmth, and family history.
