Project Overview

This primary suite remodel in Fairfax Station, VA reimagines everyday living through a refined balance of modern luxury and thoughtful aging-in-place design. The homeowners were seeking additional storage, a more expansive bathroom, and a layout that would support long-term comfort. To achieve this, our team designed a pop-top addition over the garage, creating a light-filled new primary suite complete with a dedicated his closet. The original footprint was reconfigured to allow for a generously sized bathroom and a spacious her closet, maximizing both function and flow.

A standout feature of the suite is the luxury closet design, tailored to elevate both organization and display. The her closet includes illuminated glass shelving, creating a boutique-like setting for showcasing favorite purses and accessories, while providing exceptional visibility and organization. These thoughtfully integrated lighting details add a layer of sophistication and make everyday routines feel indulgent.

At the heart of the suite, custom Shiloh beaded inset cabinetry in a rich black finish brings tailored elegance to the bathroom. The classic Windsor door and drawer style is paired with full-extension inset drawers, blending timeless craftsmanship with modern convenience. Countertops and shower walls are wrapped in Emil Level White Siena porcelain slab, delivering a clean, spa-like aesthetic with seamless continuity.

The bathroom design elevates daily routines with carefully selected fixtures in Vibrant Brushed Moderne Brass, adding warmth and contrast throughout. A sculptural Kohler Ceric freestanding soaking tub anchors the space, while Kohler Purist volume controls and a multifunction showerhead create a luxurious, customizable shower experience. Underfoot, brushed brass edge detailing provides a subtle metallic accent that ties the entire palette together.

The result is a serene, future-ready retreat—one that feels indulgent today while offering smart design solutions for the years ahead.

Sun Design handled the renovation of our large basement several years ago. We finished our laundry room and added two walls of built in cabinets, reconfigured a storage room and run-down kitchen into a guest room and sitting area, and finished a large rec room.
