Split-Level Transformation I Mantua, VA
Project Overview
In the Mantua neighborhood of Fairfax, Virginia, this split level exterior transformation reimagines both function and curb appeal while respecting the home’s established character. By relocating the main entrance to the second level, the design team introduced an elevated covered porch that now serves as a natural extension of the formal living room—an inviting outdoor retreat for fresh air and connection on pleasant days.
Above the garage, the reconfiguration of four existing windows created opportunities to enhance interior storage, improving closet functionality without expanding the footprint. New dormers were thoughtfully integrated above these openings, while graceful arch detailing between the porch columns echoes architectural elements found throughout the home, allowing the addition to feel seamless rather than separate.
At the lower level, a newly created garage-level entry provides direct, convenient access to the guest suite, improving everyday flow for both homeowners and visitors. The result is a cohesive split level exterior renovation that balances practicality, proportion, and timeless detailing within the established streetscape of Mantua.
