Residential Kitchen
Built-in Breakfast Nook
Project Overview
Previously, the kitchen space felt disconnected to the adjacent family room. By removing walls, the kitchen space is now open to adjacent spaces, while getting some pretty cool upgrades along the way. By enlarging the center island, it replaces the need for the wall that was separating the kitchen from the family room. Designing the center island on an angle, created the perfect niche for a built-in breakfast nook with easy access to the windows. Additionally, by repositioning the center island, it provides much better sightlines to the adjacent spaces, allowing the chef to not only see what’s happening in the family room, but can see all the way out to their screened porch!
The pantry was located in the back of a tight hallway off the kitchen and garage entrance. Relocating the pantry allowed access to be created from the front door and opened the hallway for a more organized access from the garage as well. This previously tight hallway now has designated areas for storage, a dropzone for their mail and car keys, and even space to clean up their dog after a long day of play.
